Bye Bye Birdie

The setting is 1958 and rock star Conrad Birdie is about to be inducted into the Army. His agent/songwriter plans a final publicity stunt before he is sent overseas – give a randomly chosen girl from Birdie’s national fan club one last kiss. When the star’s entire entourage descends upon Sweet Apple, Ohio – home of the lucky winner – for a live broadcast on The Ed Sullivan Show, the quite town is turned upside down. An on-again, off-again romance, exasperated parents, a jealous boyfriend, a teenage dance party and even a Shriners meeting all add to the mayhem and fun, but a happy ending is inevitable. Winner of 4 Tony Awards including Best Musical of 1960, the original Broadway cast included Dick Van Dyke, Chita Rivera, Paul Lynde, Charles Nelson Reilly, Dick Gautier, Kay Medford and Michael J. Pollard. Featuring the largest cast ever assembled for a Theatre Harrisburg production, you’ll “Put On A Happy Face” with this exuberant season ending musical comedy.
